Composer & Music Educator

Colton Francis

An American composer and music educator with over 12 years of teaching experience. Passionate about creating engaging lessons, he utilizes game-based and composition-based learning modules, catering to students of diverse musical backgrounds and ages. His composition students have gained admission to esteemed institutions like Juilliard, Eastman, Peabody, Mannes, San Francisco Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, and Manhattan School of Music.

Since 2023, he has served as a guest lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), teaching music history to graduate students and delivering lectures on composition practices in the age of AI. Additionally, he was the composer in residence for the Trout Piano Quartet from 2020-2022, contributing original works and chamber arrangements performed in top concert halls across mainland China and Europe. His collaboration with Shenzhen University composing for an original musical, "The Beard Clan's Secret Treasure", premiered to sold out audiences and received notable recognition for its contribution to arts for the youth. His works have also been performed by the Wet Ink Ensemble, Bergamot Quartet, Dovetail Duo, and The Arm.

Mr. Francis holds an Associates Degree in Music from Collin College, a Bachelor's of Music in Music Composition from the University of Texas at Tyler, and a Masters of Music in Music Composition at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins.
